The book Wise Blood by Flannery O'Connor is a very dark journey of internal conflict and grotesque trauma that breaks down and eventually restores the main character. The film adaptation however is a satire comedy that overrides all of O'Connor's work. To push back against this film I created a book wrap and two spot illustrations that emphasized the emotional turmoil and intensity of her work. I looked towards a 50s American horror comic book style that emphasized heavy use of black and line. I also sought to use Intense graphic projections with foreshortening, aiming for a mid formality and abstraction in my work.
